1920s Los Angeles — Ub Iwerks, a skilled animator, and his business savvy partner, Walt Disney, scramble to keep their animation studio afloat straining their friendship. Ub grapples with resentment toward his absent father while Walt plans the studio's first synchronized sound cartoon. Years after a falling out, Ub learns the value of forgiveness leading him home to his friend, Walt.Small Songs After All celebrates Steamboat Willie and other works entering the public domain thereby allowing artists to innovate and play with beloved media while at the same time invigorating and perpetuating the source materials' legacy.

About the Composer

John-Paul Brabant's professional travels have taken him to LA and NY and back again. In recent years John-Paul has dedicated his compositional efforts to creating original stories set to music. His first major work, Angler's Daughter, dramatizes the history and folklore of the Thousand Islands into a dark and brooding concert opera-musical crossover. Original One-Act Musical Seeking Talented Performers on Oahu!

Casting talent for Small Songs After All, a one-act musicalization of the events and media that influenced Steamboat Willie (1928) to be presented as a staged reading Nov. 22 at Orvis Auditorium at UH Manoa. Three weeks of weekday evening rehearsals in November. Demo tracks available. Pay listed based on work load.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

Ub Iwerks
(formerly "Gib")

Lead, Male, 20s–30s. Lyric baritone. Animator navigating friendship and creative autonomy. Married and seeks to start a family.

Mildred Iwerks
(formerly "Molly")

Supporting, Female, 20s–30s. Alto. Gib’s loving and supportive wife. Doubles as elderly CEO’s wife.

Walt Disney
(formerly "Syd")

Supporting, Male, 20s–30s. Tenor. Charismatic young businessman. Doubles as comic-relief spy, and Young Gib.

Mr. Exec

Supporting, Male, 30s–60s. Baritone. Larger-than-life cutthroat movie mogul and distributor with comedic flair. Doubles as father with foreign accent.

Narrator

Reads stage directions. Any gender and age.
